WINTER FASHION TRENDS 1213

From the Glam Imam (Muslim chaplain actually) Karimah bint Dawoud.

Aside from Islamic medicine, reciting Quran with tajweed and tarteel, almond cheesecake, handsome brothers with kind characters and  the environment, I have a passion for fashion, not in a let me loose in New Bond Street kind of way but in a let me see what going on and fuse it with Islam kind of way then take a trip down to my tailor and see what he can knock up from my sketches and fabric suggestions.

So here were go honey, what I like about what coming inshallah.

I love these fitted dresses, not ideally Islamic but would look great under a looser fitting coat, you know the layered look. I love the fifties silhouette and the slanted or severe peplum waist line.

I see that this look is inspried by the fitted silhouetted for Yves Saint Laurents Winter ready to wear collection that interstingly  shows leather and chain mail .

And the chain mail……………… interesting, remind me to get those metal spiked pumps!

And tartan’s back, but really, did it ever go away ? I have some red Campbell tartan stashed away and have been threatening for a few years now to have a Moroccan abaya made up in it  to express the fusion of my ancestors , African and Scottish, inshallah this year I’ll do it.

Another story is Romantic Retro, inspired by the  1960′s  Roman Polanski movie, Rosemary’s Baby, really the style is like bohemian Biba who they should really give credit to. We should remember that the bohemian rapsody of the 60′s was inspired by the bohemian movement of the Victorian era which was inspired by  the Orientalists many trips to North Africa , Turkey and the Raj. The colours are cutting edge and more harmonious than  than the original vintage.

another trend that likes to rear its pretty head when the autumn leaves start to blow is something wild. 0ut in the wildness, always some variant on nomad and this year is no different, a couple of years a go it was Gold Digger, not in The Only Way is Essex Style of Gold Digger but in the Let’s Go Mining for Gold Lumber jack style. I didn’t really like it,  bit too rough for my liking. This Nomadic Chic look its more my style.Soft pastelly, earthy tones, a little bit of spice with a some nice dark chocolate sprinkle over to keep you warm.the silhouette is more urban farmer  than  sheep shearer.

I love this collage of style, although there’s a lot of lingerie, there are shapes in there that can be adapted for party and day wear, however some skilful tailoring  is going to be required.I spotted the Somali “direh ” in there which fashion will call kaftan, a sweeping term for those not so in the know fashionistas, still we are all learning alhmdulilah.

Dior is killing it  right now with the heel heel “riding” boots……hmmmm, so high, too high for riding horses though. They look a lot like Timberland boots from a few years ago with a bit of bondage thrown in, especially the black ones, still they are not bad in price about £150 if you like that sort of thing

Last but not least something for the brothers, you don’t have to go the whole hog but a flash of colour in a scarf is nice, or a dark raspberry thobe perhaps….I would be appreciated.

  1. Aisha says:

Astugfullah!! A bit of fashion while being modest is fine but theres a very thin line u dont cross which becomes not apart of hijab & ive noticed whenever someone corrects u on anything u become very hostile towards other people & posted pictures of big set people naked which is disgraceful! astugfullah…we shouldnt show up people whether muslim or not! may Allah swt guide us all not to have pride & have humility….pride doesnt get us into jennah & ruins peoples character.

    • as salam alaikum sistar, I see in your passion you have forgotten your manners already, its customary to give salaams, anyway, I have approved your comment in order to reply, I am not advocating imitation these fashion but taking aspects of them and adapting them to Islamic designs, there are no naked women

  2. Tanya Weekes says:

Saalam Hun!! Love that you’re doing fashion posts – keep them coming! X x

Oooh…just noticed Aisha’s comment above, which got me thinking…aside from what you said above, could it not be seen as a little inspiration to dress up for you hubby? When indoors? Or for women’s only events etc.

Anyhow, keep up the goodness! x

    • wa alaikum sallam, tanya, some women do not dress up for their husbands, some women do not realise that in Islam there are public and private spaces, they wear silwa camis inside and outside the house…………… stockings and suspenders for their husband??????? oh no!!!! they are good women only bad women even think of wearing those sort of clothes……………..alhmdulilah we are not like that , its a sunnah to make an effort for your husband, no wonder in certain cultures men have girlfriends, secret co wives or even go to prostitutes, their wives need to make an effort and get a bit of spice in their life

  3. Benefits will in all probability be shown if used 30 minutes every single day.
